Well, in the end it is like Axel said something of personal taste. I for
my part out of curiosity downloaded the two TeXLive-2006 packages from
Richard Koch and tried both.
Both worked like a charm with my rather rudimentary tex-documents (that
is no fancy packages even though some quite large documents).

What I personally like about the full TeXLive-2006 is the load of
packages already included in the distri, e.g. I did not need to install
apacite and jurabib by myself (even if that's quite easy with TCOBrowser).

What I miss though in both packages are some of Gerben's additions, for
example the GTAMacFonts (well, at least I haven't been able to use
them). If you need these or other additions from Gerben, I would stick
to the latest i-installer gwTeX.

In essence that TeXLive is not final the packages are not deemed "Beta"
but as far as I can see, no problems there. They installed without any
problems and work like a charm. AFAIK, Gerben uses some TeXLive
binaries from the latest snapshot, too.

Well, that's something that make's me curious, too. I assume they are
the same.
Am I correct, if I assume that e.g. ghostscript in MacTeX-Additions is
installed directly and not using i-installer in the background?

All the best
