Pete, thanks for this help:

Yes, I see that actually the tex/generic sub-path already had been there:

/usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local/tex/generic/

It feels that this is the right location for putting the bgtex directory.
I've tried this and the command "latex" typesets example1.tex file (which 
uses the bulgarian language from bgtex) with no errors. But the original 
problem persists: the grmn*.* fonts are generated and placed into the 
local subdirectory of the example1.tex, instead where they are supposed to 
be:

/private/var/tmp/texfonts/ for gwTeX.

I am given up with attempts fot the bgtex language package 
(actually, the only one extra package I've ever tried...)

It might be that I should Uninstall and re-Install & Configure gwTeX.
Because these attempts of mine might have messed up gwTeX on my 
machine (actually, I can't think of what I might have 
done at all, since this problem popped-up with the very 1st attempt to 
typeset example1.tex.)
