I actually found this a much better introduction to Sweave:
http://www.stat.umn.edu/~charlie/Sweave/
Especially:

and the corresponding Sweave file:
http://www.stat.umn.edu/~charlie/Sweave/foo.Rnw

It explains in the very first paragraph how to get Sweave to run,  
which is I think essential.
