[OS X TeX] TeXShop question

I see that Herb has also given you some instructions.  These are 
slightly simpler, since the velthuis folder is already set up with 
the right directory structure.

Just to make sure, you have created a ~/Library/texmf folder, with 
folders latex (and plain if you use plain tex).

In the velthuis folder you will find a folder tex.  Inside that are 
two folders latex and plain and inside each of those is a folder 
velthuis.  Put the velthuis folder from the latex folder into your 
~/Library/texmf/tex/latex and the one from plain in the plain folder.

Make a new folder inside your ~/Library/texmf folder called fonts

In the velthuis folder you'll find a folder called fonts. Drag all 
the folders INSIDE this 'fonts' folder to your new fonts folder

Make another new folder inside ~/Library/texmf called doc

In the velthuis folder you'll find a folder called doc.  Inside is 
another folder called generic and inside that, another called 
velthuis.  Option-Drag this folder to your newly created doc folder. 
(I would recommend that you copy and not move the doc files, so that 
you can keep them in a more accessible place, since there are some 
other examples there that you would probably want to look at.

I would also recommend that you rename the file 'manual.pdf' to 
something more useful like 'devanagari.pdf'.  This way you can use 
texdoc to find the manual easily using 'texdoc devanagari' instead of 
'texdoc manual' (which is not very memorable!)

Checking my tex installation it seems that the preprocessor is 
already installed.  (In terminal, type 'which devnag'.  It should 
return something like 
/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i386-apple-darwin-current/devnag (depending on 
your installation; mine is a little old)

If it returns nothing, then you will need to compile it from source. 
(Which is easy enough; ask if you need help on this).
