Hi Pete,

You are quoting people who were very close to me. Alfréd Rényi was my  
professor, teaching me probability theory, then he was my "boss" at  
the Mathematical Research Institute of the Hungarian Acad. Sci.

I first met EP when I was 17 and we met periodically over the years.  
He visited me in Manitoba at least once a year for some 20 years. I  
was lucky to have them, and lots of others, around me as I grew up as  
a mathematician.
