Folks,

I have updated all of the MacTeX packages. The main one,
MacTeX-2007.dmg, is linked from

	www.tug.org/mactex

and the remaining packages are linked from

	www.tug.org/mactex/morepackages.html

When these packages are opened by Apple's installer, the initial
Welcome dialog will have date September, 2007. Hey, it's almost
September.

One complication is that the links on these pages will not return the
new packages until the packages migrate to the appropriate servers.
The main package, MacTeX-2007.dmg, is on CTAN. By going to

	http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/mac/mactex/

you will discover that MacTeX.dmg is a link to a dated package; it
should be a link to MacTeX-20070829.dmg.

The other packages are on cstug.cz and math.utah.edu. You can tell if
the first has been updated by going to

	http://ftp.cstug.cz/pub/tex/local/TC2007/mactex.more/

This server has been updated when the linked files have date 20070829.

The packages contain the latest versions of GUI software, including
today's BibDesk update. The TeXLive-2007-Dev package contains a
snapshot of the svn server version as of two days ago. In contrast,
MacTeX-2007 contains the February release version of TeXLive-2007, but
with Beamer patched.

The packages contain a slightly modified simpdftex script, which will
be necessary in Leopard when you typeset using TeX and Ghostscript mode.

The simpdftex script also contains revisions by Gerben Wierda which
were mentioned by Bruno Voisin several days ago. Below is what Bruno
wrote. From now on, use the gwTeX syntax from his message if you want
simpdftex to use dvipdfm(x).

----------------------------

That said, it is possible to make TeXShop use dvipdfm(x) instead. How
to do this depends on whether you're using MacTeX with TeXLive-2007,
or gwTeX:

- With MacTeX, open TeXShop and in Preferences > Engine > TeX + dvips
+ distiller, enter:

** For TeX: simpdftex_dpmx tex --dpx --maxpfb

** For LaTeX: simpdftex_dpmx latex --dpx --maxpfb

Then, TeX will use dvipdfmx; if you prefer the original dvipdfm
(dvipdfmx is a modified version for compatibility with Japanese and
Korean, I think), then replace the --dpx option by --dpm.

- With gwTeX, do the same as before with:

** For TeX: simpdftex tex --mode dvipdfmx --maxpfb

** For LaTeX: simpdftex latex --mode dvipdfmx --maxpfb

Again, if you prefer dvipdfm to dvipdfmx, change the mode accordingly.
