No, just to not have the specific release in the path.
Also, should I install another TL tree, I can just break the old
symlinks and link the new tree. Note that this idea is
implemented a lot better in the tex distribution switching
mechanism you get from gwTeX, etc... (The thing I don't like is
that it's under /usr, but that's just me.)
