Do you see in the drawer also the "context" in which the string you  
searched for is embedded? I only get the page number so I prefer to  
search in Preview.

(A script like texdoc is easily extensible to first do the conversion  
from DVI, or XDV, to PDF and then invoke the actual viewer. From the  
command line you could use an alias or a shell function to perform  
similarly. And there is one more reason to migrate to Preview: it can  
handle every format, portrait and landscape, at any size.)
