[OS X TeX] TexLive install failure

Hi All

I have a fatal failure when trying to install the new Texlive based tex
ipackage:

"I cannot locate the kpsewhich program. If this cannot be found,
configuration is impossible. I will bail out..."

I thought that kpsewhich is part of the terminal. If I go into the terminal
and type "kpsewhich --help" I get the help files for the programme.

Thoughts on how to deal with this one? I'm lost.
