Because you're using the wrong command: 'rm -d' *enables* rm to treat  
a(n empty) directory like a file. This is a POSIX feature, which  
Apple's (and other BSD rm's, too?) do not apply to yet completely.  
Try 'rm -rf'!

Sorry, no access to your Mac, don't even know its IP address. Have  
you tried 'ls -alwR' to see yourself?
