[OS X TeX] multiline bracket in a table, text in math mode?

If you have more than 3 rows I would recommend this construction
\begin{equation}\notag
\text{Il} \quad \begin{Bmatrix}
A\\[6pt]
B\\[6pt]
C\\[6pt]
D
\end{Bmatrix}\quad
C
\end{equation}
