guys!
it is not really true that you cannot get easily to /etc/: the
Finders "Go to ..." (cmd-shift-g) does work in a standard Open Panel
and you only have to type "/etc", hit return and you are there. but
maybe G is right and that's not easy enough...
you even can get everywhere on your HD with a single click: use
FolderGlance (http://home.online.no/~stoedle/YLS/FolderGlance.html)
and add your HD as a custom folder including invisible files. that
way a ctrl-click above any window or the desktop lets you see
EVERYTHING (and its possible to move or copy stuff around as you'll
be asked for your password). its perfect to quickly compare the
structure of TeX-distributions...
however, i think the goals for TeX-(Live)-in-the-
future_WhateverYouNameIt are:
1. easy to find (for the average user /Library/TeX is easier to find
than /usr/local/texprograms)
2. easy to compare (see 1)
3. easy to switch (for those who need it)
4. in sum: stay transparent
so, guys, you only have to agree where to put the symlink and how to
name it.
get it done
T.
PS: Dick was quicker than me and seems to agree...
