I didn't meant to criticize your statement, it was just to have a  
starting point. I use LaTeX (emacs+TeXniscope or TeXshop) myself and  
I'm just learning TeXmacs but it came to me as a revelation the  
possibility of "freeing" TeX typesetting algorithms from the crypting  
TeX language.

As far as I understand Lyx is still a two-headed system (you write on  
one side and the you see the "real" result), much like  latex-preview  
mode in emacs. In TeXmacs you edit and see the same thing: i.e. the  
tree of boxes laid out by the typesetter. The markup language is  a  
complete serial representation of this tree structure.
