To Sneep: As see it, Hyperref indeed makes sense mostly/only in an 
electronic version but I still haven't graduated to a paperless 
environment. :-)

I will play with it but since the only trouble Showidx ever gave me 
aside from not getting along with Hypereff—and that was no trouble at 
all—was with showing some symbols, I am in no hurry.
