Thank you for all this.
But my problem has always been the following: I may be rich of 500MB
of files, or now 1.5 GB, but how can I find what there is in this
gold heap? At some times, you would prefer to see everything sorted
by alphabetical order, so you can browse easily, rather than
structured as a tree.
Example: how do you find a step-by-step explaination of the
functionment of a simple macro as \@startsection? In the old times,
you had only to read the commented out lines in "latex.tex". Surely,
this has been retained in the hundreds of MB of new distributions,
but where? I have two or three questions of this kind every day,
about LaTeX, about font installing, etc., or about the existence, the
name and the location of some package which could save me hours of
work. I am pretty sure that, generally, the answer lies in the 1306
MB of the 3 new distributions, but where?
