[OS X TeX] custom fonts in TeXLive

I finally got to install TeXLive but I cannot get my mathtime fonts  
to work. Understanding little about fonts, my approach was to mirror,  
as closely as possible, the tree structure of the TeTeX font paths in  
TeXLive. So I did the following:

1. I placed the pfb files (mtex.pfb, mtsy.pfb, rmtmi.pfb) in Library/ 
TeXLive/texmf.local/fonts/type1/yandy/mathtime/

2. I placed the .sty and .fd files in Library/TeXLive/texmf.local/tex/ 
latex/mathtime/

3. Run texhash and updmap-sys

But it did not work: Math symbols are missing and I get console  
messages that the pfb files cannot be found (curiously, the log  
refers to mtmi instead of rmtmi).

What is the proper placement of these files?
