[OS X TeX] Different results with TeXLive intel/ppc

One other possibility here --- was XeTeX being used for the typesetting?

If so, a while ago, the old default to not use glyph metrics was  
changed to a new one to use them unless that feature was explicitly  
enabled.

Try adding:

> \XeTeXuseglyphmetrics=0

to the file and reprocessing it.
