[OS X TeX] using lengths inside pictures

       Hello all,

 the following code below does not work. What is the
sintactically correct version ?



 \newlength{\mylength}
 \setlength{\mylength}{1cm}
 \setlength{\unitlength}{1cm}

 \begin{picture}(12,3)
 \put(2,1+\mylength){Hello!}
\end{picture}
