I never had time for any documentation or advertising :).

Yes.  Local is on your drive, from the location(s) you set in prefs,  
while remote is on the CTAN site.

Yes, that's correct.  At the time, I thought it was pretty lame, but  
I couldn't (and can't) think of anything better.

I could adapt the file content search I added to BibDesk, and allow  
you to search all the recognized file types in the TeX tree by  
content, which would give boolean/wildcard functionality and a search  
score.

If I recall correctly, I take these the TeX Catalogue Online, which  
may list several files for documentation.  I think they're unordered,  
so I just link to the first one listed.

Would be doable.  I should do my yearly TCOBrowser update, but  
BibDesk is more fun to work on in my not-so-spare time.
