I'm afraid that that is a limitation of Powerpoint (or rather
Office), which can deal with bitmaps, but not with vector images.
I've seen the results of TeX Point, but only on a white background. I
think that the gif format with a transparanet background may be
understood by Office, but no guarantees.

The TeXPoint package may be of interest to you: http://
texpoint.necula.org/index.html (the last update is of march 10, 2006,
according to this site, which seems active to me). Supports both
Windows and Mac OS X, according to the page.
