Dear William Adams, Bob Kerstetter and all,
coming back to this thread from February: I got a hate mail from an
(important) recipient of my first report written from scratch in
LaTeX and output in .pdf. He insists on receiving a Word file
instead, and has never heard of LaTeX. So I have to do something
about this.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried several routes to produce a
Word file:

(1) Word2TeX (mentioned in the Practical TeX Journal). However, it
runs only on Microsoft Windows 95,98,Me,NT,2000 and XP. The same is
true for SolidPDF, only compatible with
Windows2000,WinXP,Windows2003, and BCL Drake: for Windows 2000 / XP
only, PDF2WORD, same thing.

(2) I tried Versiontracker, there is no file converter PDF to Word or
rtf.
So I attempted from Latex direct to rtf and html.

(3) latex2rtf.
I managed to install (learned UNIX basic commands on the way) and run
it, the programme got stuck with the message
(Not set):145 Error! Unknown file I/O error reading latex file.
I did not bother to center on this problem, because I conclude from
the first few loglines that many of the style packages are unknown to
the programme and ignored, especially jurabib which does all my
footnotes, and that latex2rtf, consequently, will not do the job.
Correct?

(4) tex4ht (in order to produce an html file, read this in Word and
produce a .doc file):

I ran htlatex filename "html,0" as indicated by Bob and it ran OK up
to the end. This package seems to be able to convert everyting in
my .tex file, even jurabib. But I got no html output file.

The log file first goes through all the packages, then displays a lot
of 'Notes - for ("this and that") use the command line option ("this
or that")', then calls a lot of files with extension .4ht, then goes
into Page layout dimensions and switches. The last part of the log is
as indicated 5 lines below, here I find some hints that might give
you a clue.
Where is the problem ?

Thanks in advance
Winfried
