If you look at the output you will notice that the ps file is here:
/tmp/altpdflatex.1112-1142942725/sample.ps
or, at least it was; I don't know how often this will get cleaned up. You
might want to think about installing ghostscript (which will install ps2pdf).
As already mentioned there is also pstopdf, supplied by Apple. Another
possibility that might work is to avoid the ps file altogether and using
dvipdfm, which should get installed with TeX.
