It seems to fix the problems.  I launched the new version, with  
Rosetta launching off, and did the following:

  - searched for 'we' (only 'We' was in the file); it worked.
  - searched for '\mathfrak'; it worked
  - did search and replace, both "\Blat" -> "\Bork" and
    "\Blat" -> "Bork"; both worked
