I don't think that the *text* encoding has some influence on the
*font* encoding -- maybe a
\usepackage{cmap}
helps ... It should be used in the preamble as early as possible!
Could be cmap only works with real (not simulated) pdfTeX. Then it
adjusts character naming. It's great magic: suddenly what you paste
is exactly what you copied from a (La)TeX document!
These are my 2¢ -- hopefully William Adams or some AI user has better
advice!
