[OS X TeX] divps problem

Before taking off on sabbatical recently, I duly updated my TeX
installation (from Gerben's distribution, of course). Now I find
that dvips (which I need, because of my reliance on ps-producing
macros for drawing linguistic trees) is choking in a most peculiar
way. When I try to typeset a dummy version of a book manuscript I'm
working on, TeXShop (2.10 beta) fails to produce a pdf:
> [....]
> Output written on Surmiran.dvi (22 pages, 7044 bytes).
> Transcript written on Surmiran.log.
> ### /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/dvips -R -

This makes no sense. That header file is right where it belongs, as
it has been for a very long time:
> Edgerton:~ sra$ ls -l /Users/sra/Library/texmf/tex/latex/local/tree-
> dvips.pro
> -rwxr-xr-x 1 sra sra 6352 May 9 2002 /Users/sra/Library/texmf/
> tex/latex/local/tree-dvips.pro
I also find that other files (invoking tee-dvips) that typeset fine
prior a few weeks ago fail with the same error.
What's up, and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance,
