[OS X TeX] Quitting *Tex from the command line

ctrl-D would also work I think.

I find the x+return not a very satisfying solution I must say. LaTeX  
seems to respond to that by compiling the file /usr/local/teTeX/share/ 
texmf.tetex/tex/latex/tools/x.tex
Looking at the file reveals that there are at least 3-4 commands  
being executed.

Is that really the simplest way to exit from latex?
Is there a good reason why ctrl-C doesn't work?
