I think Jonathan is hitting the nail on its head. As the problem doesn't
appear on my system (like on Morten's), I guess you should look at the
versions of your packages. Something seems to mess up with \fi's inside
your headers.
I have a strong suspicion that Babel could be the culprit. I have met
problems last year where babel could give problems with \fi's.
