[OS X TeX] bold sf in memoir

I cannot reproduce that behavior with the simple

\documentclass{memoir}
\begin{document}
\thispagestyle{empty}  \loggingoutput
\sffamily\bfseries X
\end{document}

In the log file I see

....\OT1/cmss/bx/n/10 X

which is bold sans serif.
