[OS X TeX] formats for ConTeXt-XeTeX

That's no UNIX mistake.

TeXShop automatically registers all engines it finds at l(a)unch  
time. If it then reads in the source that a particular engine is to  
be used for this source it selects it automatically, too. You might  
see this in the text of the (almost) rectangular button right of  
"Setzen" where you can choose manually any of the known engines.

And since you mentioned that you work with TeXShop 2 you should have  
learned from reading that the source files need to be marked with

	%!TEX TS-program = ConXeTeXt
	%!TEX encoding = UTF-8 Unicode	% or another encoding or nothing for  
MacRoman

Before your next try don't forget to re-launch TeXShop 2!
