That happened with some versions of TeXShop and gwTeX, but I thought  
this got cured very recently. Just make sure that, in TeXShop, the  
TeX Program in Preferences > Engine is:

simpdftex tex --maxpfb

and the LaTeX Program is:

simpdftex latex --maxpfb
