This happens every time you cp a *.a file to a new place, or even when 
you just 'touch' it. The installer should either use a method for 
copying that doesn't change modification dates, or run ranlib after the 
installation. Anyway, once you know what the problem is, it is easy to 
fix (unlike the earlier wrong architecture problem).
