you need to use aspell 0.50 at least! There is some code changed to 
check exactly aspell's version, and other is written to only accept 
some recent aspell versions.

In case you migrate to recent aspell you too would have to change the 
dictionaries! Their internal format has changed too. There too is a new 
CocoAspell available with these new dictionaries.

The discussion on this topic has not finished, I think, so it might 
happen that next Carbon Emacs 22.0.50 from CVS will work again with 
last millennium's aspell. (ispell still works)
