As someone else mentioned, they are represented as colons:

-rw-r--r--   1 amaxwell  admin  254115 Sep 28 12:32 09:28:2005.pdf

If you only work with GUI applications, this is no problem; if you switch back and forth between GUI and shell, it's annoying.
