Howdy,

Not so pretty, but...

Put the two lines

%!TEX TS-program = xelatex
%!TEX TS-program = pdflatex

at the start of the file. The first one in order is the one that will  
be used (in this case the xelatex engine). Switch the order of the  
lines to get pdflatex.
