Simple answer: use the url package or the hyperref package (they both  
will make the URL a hyperlink to your home page). An alternative is  
to use \textasciitilde IIRC (but no hyperlink in that case).


/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/tex/latex/url/url.sty (the package  
is its own documentation)
