Not joking: It is available in Panther Client through Disk Utility
_if_ you edit a property list (/System/Library/Filesystems/... use
Google to find the detailed instructions). I used this prior to
installing Tiger (booting from a FireWire drive). So it did require
me to jump through some hoops.
The installer itself doesn't offer this option, but Disk Utility does
under Tiger.
