[OS X TeX] Using Babel with I-Installer tex installation

You might still have 
/Users/fmhoyt/Library/texmf/tex/latex/misc/english.ldf and particularly 
/Users/fmhoyt/Library/texmf/tex/latex/misc/babel.def ...

What is openany in \documentclass[10pt,openany]{article}? Does your 
example work without it? And \TeXXeTstate=1: it has to do with RL 
instead of LR, I presume. How are the results without in a step-by-step 
procedure?
