[OS X TeX] TeX Install Problems

Better confess right off the bat that I know nothing about TeX.
Consider yourself warned, if you read on.
I'm working with a company's publishing system which uses LaTeX. A
local installation isn't critical, but it would help me spot check my
work as I go.
I first tried a TeX Live! instillation, but ran into some problems
there. I got a tip that the i-Installer route is easier, so I "rm
-rf"ed the old Tex directory and re-installed using that method. I've
installed TeX, Ghostscript 8, and many others now. Once I added
"/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8" to my path, the
publishing system seemed to find the programs when I would try to run
it.
Unfortunately, I get a lot of errors as it runs (a sample is pasted
below) and it produces obviously incorrect output.
To be clear, I'm not writing any TeX/LaTex here. That's all been
provided by the company and I know their system works. The problem
lies in my install; I'm sure of that.
So I thought I would post a cry for help here and see if any kind soul
can put me on the right path. I've tried everything I can think of, so
I thought I would see if anyone who actually knows what they are doing
can throw me a tip or two of things I might try.
