Simon Spiegel (who posts on this list, but also visits arstechnica.com, 
like I do) provided me with a sample Pages XML file. Just the words 
"Hello World!" on a single page. That was turned by pages into a 196 KB 
file (uncompressed), due to all the templates that were inserted as 
well. There is a lot of unneeded garbage in those files, and 
transforming it into LaTeX that is clean enough to continue working 
with it, is going to be very tricky. Indeed, it is a matter of what 
you'd like to translate: I think content & structure are the only 
things to bother about, not the visuals.
