[OS X TeX] Empty boxes, no chars

TeX isn't capable of doing that, yet: this is up to you.  It just 
breaks paragraphs into lines.  To watch TeX at this job, 
\tracingparagraphs=1 (together with chapter 14 of the TeXbook) is 
your friend.
