Howdy,
Why not ~/Library/texmf/web2c/ where they are stored now? I've got two
custom formats there and they are found now without a problem.
I am just now beginning to see the inconsistencies in my setup. I've got
several fonts in my personal tree, ~/Library/texmf/fonts/..., but the map
files are kept in the texmf.local branch. I guess I should move the fonts to
the texmf.local branch. This is for philosophical reasons only since I'm
effectively the only user on my system. But I like getting the philosophy
right too.
Good Luck,
