Howdy,

As yet another adendum

time pstopdf test-fig1.ps

produced

real 3.11s
usr 1.22s
sys 0.59s

while

time ps2pdf13 test-fig1.ps

produced

real 1.315s
usr 0.930s
sys 0.250s

a fairly dramatic difference on a fairly simple graphic, the first figure
from the test.tex file that comes with the pdftricks package. If I don't use
altpdflatex I should at least use ps2pdf13 from Ghostscript.

Good Luck,
