Hello!
I am writing on a possible article for TUGboat, introducing the MacTeX
package. One part should be to mention some packages in teTeX (not
gwTeX). Right now I have:
• \TeX{} Catalogue Online, \docs TCOBrowser or Internet browser
application;
• FAQ from UK \TeX{} Users Groups, \docs uktug-faq, but also HTML
version;
• microtype, micro-typographic extensions\footnote{these are
\emph{character protrusion} and as an extra for \PS{} fonts only
\emph{font expansion}} of pdf\-\TeX{}}, \docs microtype;
• cmap.sty, to copy\,\&\,paste \TeX{} texts from a PDF viewer or
search in them for non-US ASCII (compound) or mathematical characters
too;
• \ConTeXt{}\footnote{\url{http://www.pragma-ade.com/}}, a \TeX{}
dialect that allowing much more control on a document's design and
look;
•
\TeX{}4ht\footnote{\url{http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~gurari/TeX4ht/
mn.html}}, converts \TeX{} or \LaTeX{} sources to HTML, does not
support all STYles, CLasseS, ENCodings, or fonts;
• LCDF Typetools\footnote{\url{http://www.lcdf.org/type/}}, utilities
to make use of in \emph{Compact Font Format (cff)} encoded \PS{} fonts
in OpenType format (OTF), make a font's defined glyphs print out on
test pages, handle multiple-master \PS{} fonts ...
• CM-Super fonts, \PS{} substitutes for ''\TeX{}'' fonts;
• Latin
Modern\footnote{\url{http://au.gust.org.pl/gust/projects/
project_latinmodern/}}, \PS{} and OpenType look-alike substitutes for
''\TeX{}'' fonts;
• CB Greek, \PS{} fonts particularly to support teubner;
• Music\TeX{}, \PS{} fonts to set sheet music, \docs musixdoc;
• Antykwa
Toru\'nska\footnote{\url{http://au.gust.org.pl/gust/projects/
antykwa_torunska/}}, \PS{} and OpenType fonts, \docs
AntykwaTorunska-doc-en-2\_01;
• PSTricks\footnote{\url{http://www.tug.org/applications/PSTricks}},
\PS{} tricks in \TeX, but pst-pdf.sty missing, ps4pdf script sort of
substitute, \docs $\langle$too many specialised docs$\rangle$;
• teubner, an extension for philological typesetting, \docs
teubner-doc;
•
beamer\footnote{\url{http://sourceforge.net/projects/latex-beamer/}}, a
\LaTeX{} class for producing beamer presentations, \docs
beameruserguide;
• prosper\footnote{\url{http://prosper.sourceforge.net/}}, to make
slides in \LaTeX{}, \docs prosper-doc prosper-tour;
• seminar\footnote{\url{http://tug.org/applications/Seminar}}, for
producing slides and transparencies, \docs sem-user;
• memoir, a flexible class for typesetting general fiction,
non-fiction and mathematical works as books, reports, articles, or
manuscripts, documents can use 9pt, 10pt, 11pt, 12pt, 14pt or 17pt,
\docs memman;
• \KOMAScript\footnote{\url{http://www.komascript.de/}}, \LaTeX{}
classes to set articles, books, reports, and particularly letters,
\docs scrguien;
• hyperref, cross-referencing commands in LaTeX to produce some sort
of hyper-text, \docs hyperref/manual;
• xspace, used in macro definitions in text it adds a space unless
particular punctuation is used, \docs xspace;
• (x)keyval, (x)color, calc, url: you can't live without them any
more, \docs calc keyval xkeyval xcolor;
What else should mentioned for newcomers? Which packages use their own
logos?
