> I think part of the anti-Spotlight sentiment around here is due to misunderstanding about what it's supposed to do (probably due in part to Apple's hype).
In **large** part I think -- thank you for pointing that out. I went to Apple's site for a sanity check (yes, any number of jokes can be found in that ;>}) and found this about Spotlight (Software>Spotlight):
"Stop looking. Start finding. With Spotlight, you can find anything on your computer as quickly as you type. Search your entire system from one place: Files, emails, contacts, images, calendars and applications appear instantly... With Spotlight, you always find what youre looking for, even if you dont know where to look... Thanks to Spotlight and its range of supported formats, you can find anything on your Mac, from text hidden within a PDF document to an image shot with a particular camera. By putting this phenomenal search technology at your fingertips, Spotlight and Mac OS X will change how you find, organize and value the information saved on your computer..."

Notice that word 'anything' -- used at least twice -- and the phrase 'always find'. I think that is what we all expected, though, in hindsight, we might have been a bit naive. But we certainly weren't imagining what Spotlight could do (according to Apple), or putting words into Apple's mouth, or given over to unrealistic expectations based on flights of fancy.
Harumph.
Cheers.
