To be less allusive: I was speaking of updmap vs. updmap-sys (with  
updmap now the default and differing from the former updmap which has  
become updmap-sys), and the choice of having formats and map files  
etc. in either /usr/local/ or in the home directory ~/. I don't  
remember, however, whether this change is connected with teTeX or  
TeXLive.
