That's easy to answer: because if you share attachments with others
using Macs then you just don't want it on.


When you attach a document without it, then 2 files get included,
having similar names. This is essentially the old Data-fork,
and Resource-fork in Classical Mac OS parlance.

A Mac receiving the attachment(s) knows what to do with the different
pieces, but Windows and other OSs do not -- yet their mailers will
show that both pieces have arrived. Try to open the resource fork
and they'll just show garbage; hence the option to not send that bit.
