I would disagree. Surely the term arose due to exasperation that people 
were in fact not reading the manual. The un-profane version was surely 
invented to placate conservative types and hence diluted the original 
meaning...

But that's how I see it. According to the history books, I may be 
incorrect since I didn't witness the evolution of the term (but 
logically I doubt it).
