This means the directory /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/tex/xetex/
isn't seen. You may try editing /usr/local/teTeX/texmf.cnf (using for
example "sudo pico" in Terminal), adding at the end:

TEXINPUTS.xelatex = .;$TEXMF/tex/{xetex,latex,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.xetex   = .;$TEXMF/tex/{xetex,plain,generic,}//

possibly replacing the lines:

TEXINPUTS.xelatex = .;$TEXMF/{xetex,tex}/{latex,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.xetex   = .;$TEXMF/{xetex,tex}/{plain,generic,}//

(or similar) that may be there.
