[OS X TeX] More pronounced margin kerning in TL 2004?

I think so, that LY1 is better. But T1 is more standard, so I imagine 
this is a bug in microtype, which possibly has not been tested as 
extensively with LY1 encoding as with T1. The explanation may be inside 
the doc 
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.gwtex/doc/latex/microtype/microtype.pdf or 
in the config file 
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.gwtex/tex/latex/microtype/mt-ptm.cfg, but 
I must admit I've been deterred from looking further at microtype by 
the number of settings and switches mentioned in the doc.

I think you also need \usepackage{textcomp}, to make sure the § sign 
(aka \S), for example, is taken from the Lucida fonts and not from CM.
