I agree!
(Although I prefer the "tell the text of the front document to..." form
better, but that's just a personal preference, as far as I know. I
agree it's not as 'natural language' like.)

Exactly!
I think adding hooks like this makes the application so much more
extensible by scripting. While you guys are coding the programs
themselves, users can be putting together scripts that make creating
documents so much easier.
Of course, if every program implemented applescript support with the
same interface, that would be even better, but I the co-ordination that
requires seems too great for the moment. (I'm hoping for a very rich AS
interface in iTM2+ which can later be copied for use in TeXShop, or
vice versa.)
In fact, it would make sense to copy BBEdit's way of doing things as
much as possible, since that's the only text editor I know of that's
used for TeX and has a very extensive Applescript dictionary. (I don't
have it or use it, though.)
